Micro dwarf tomatoes, also called windowsill tomatoes, are perfect to grow in your Sprout mini greenhouse or another small space.

As the name suggests the plants are tiny, around 15-45 cm depending on the variety. 🍅

Most people have never heard about micro dwarf tomatoes and have no idea what varieties to look for. We have therefore compiled a list below of varieties that we have grown and love!

Aztek: 20-35cm tall, bright golden yellow cherry tomatoes with a fresh and sweet flavour.
Balconi red: 30cm tall with a 30cm spread, bright red sweet cherry tomatoes.
Balconi Yellow: 30cm tall with a 30cm spread, very sweet yellow cherry tomatoes.
Balkonzauber: 40cm tall with bright red tomatoes weighing 20-40g each.
Blaue Zimmertomate: 20-40cm high producing green/blue tomatoes ripening to a dark red patchy colour.
Chibikko: 20-40cm high with a 30cm spread, bright red cherry tomatoes
Extreme Bush: 30-50cm tall with red fruits weighing around 80g each.
Kitchen mini: 15-20cm high with small red fruits.
Maja: 45cm tall with quite large fruits for a micro dwarf variety.
Microbel: 20cm tall and very compact, producing small red cherry tomatoes.
Micro Purple: 20-25cm tall and very compact, blue-purple cherry tomatoes ripening to a dark red/purple colour.
Minibel: 30-20cm tall producing small red tomatoes weighing around 15-20g each.
Mini Rose: 35cm tall producing pink cherry tomatoes
Mongolian Dwarf: 15-25cm tall with very large fruit weighing up to 200g!
Rotkappchen: 40-55cm tall producing dark red tomatoes weighing around 50g each.
Tigrett Yellow: 30cm tall with yellow striped fruit around 15-25g each.
Tiny Tim: 20-35cm high producing red cherry tomatoes.
Tiny Tiger: 30-50cm tall producing beautiful yellow and red striped large cherry tomatoes.
Vilma: 30cm tall with red cherry tomatoes
Venus: 15-20cm tall, great yield of small orange cherry tomatoes.

The Hungry Gap? Not when you have a Sprout mini-greenhouse! 🌱

The hungry gap is a period in spring when there is little or no fresh produce available from a vegetable garden - usually in April, May and early June in the UK. It's because the winter crops have ended, but the new season’s plantings are not yet ready to harvest.

Gardening and growing food with kids is absolutely wonderful but also a little bit crazy! Sometimes all your efforts are eradicated in a second when a small but mighty tornado whizzes past 🌪

So, why should we grow food with our children?

They learn so much in the garden. About nature, wildlife, flowers, vegetables, berries, fruit, as well as many valuable life lessons. They also learn to deal with disappointment when things go wrong, be patient and wait for things to grow, be responsible and to care for something, have fun, be proud of their achievements, be kind to our planet and wildlife and to connect with nature 🐦 🌱

It's a fantastic opportunity to teach your children to eat seasonally, to eat vegetables that are wonky and blemished, to harvest, and to prepare and cook the food. They also get fresh air and exercise as an added bonus!

When they learn all the effort that goes into growing veg they're also less likely to waste it. Isn't all of this absolutely amazing to teach our children?
